Pockets and Plans

Does this happen at your house?

You have a project, some great ideas, and jot copious notes ...

Then ... several months later, rediscover them, buried in a journals or file! If they aren't accessible, they may simply drop off the radar!

This SO happens to me!

Viola - I often make little cards and pockets to hold ideas I wish to be present with!

Pockets offer an easy way to see what's on your plate, move them around, plan and let them inspire action!

Several years ago, I participated in an Intentional Creativity biz class, Dancing Entrepreneur. We used creative practices to identify our What, Where, When, Who and How for offering coaching sessions, classes and workshops.

One student, Karen Dawn, posted pictures of her visual planning system in the group, and I loved it! She invited anyone interested to join her Beta Test group, and learn to craft our own! You can bet I signed up!

I love Karen's visual planning approach!

Vision Plan Board

I used a foam board for that first planning board, tacking up two Dancing Entrepreneur action cards, a vision board we created with Karen, and a ribbon clothesline, with pockets!

You can clip cards directly to the line, or Viola! - make pockets to hold sets of cards with those ideas! (Who doesn't want to make cute pockets, lol!)

Pockets offer an easy way to see what's on your plate, heartstorm, move them around, and let them inspire action! You can add labels, to help organize.

Larger pockets to hold file folders can be tacked up, holding in depth writings and larger images. Karen uses Command Clips to hang these folders on her studio wall!

Some time after making that first board, I created one on my demo canvas from a Medicine Basket class. The lines are twine, and I used Tac to post individual cards on the painting. Propped on the bookshelf in my little Atelier, it held painting prompts and some inspiration cards.

Karen has used this 'clothesline' system for organizing her ideas visually for years. She found that when her notes were tucked away in journals and files, "out of sight, out of mind," and they'd often be forgotten for months! ... Then she'd open a journal, and discover an idea she intended to pursue!

These days, I like using a magnet to post one or two cards on the fridge, and rotate them so I stay present to their messages!

Word of the Year prompt and Time Angel

Beside it, I've used half a sheet protector as a sleeve, and can easily slide in the soul collage card for the day.

The round card is one of my Word of the Year support cards. It's 'home' is a pocket crafted from a window envelope, that's glued into an altered board book.

Envelopes are great ready made pockets for cards and effemera - colorful ones from holiday cards and different sizes from junk mail are some of my favorites! You can use a larger envelope to house your collection of envelopes.!

As I dream into my projects and next offerings, and projects on my plate, I'll use visual systems to help organize tips and ideas.

What is Soul Collage?

A day or so ago, my daughter asked, 'what is Soul Collage?' ... here's the elevator pitch: Soul Collage cards combine several images, usually from magazines and calendars, assembled and glued onto a card baking. We usually don't include words on the cards, inviting the image to inform is.  The size is either 5×7" or 5x8" - large enough for several images, small enough to work with easily.  When a card is finished, the creator uses several journal prompts to "meet" the cards, and to receive information and insights from the images we've chosen.  The cards represent different aspects of ourselves and of the community around us.  After making several cards, we can use them as we might any oracle deck, consulting or own inner wisdom. We can use them for daily inspiration, or random 'readings.' We can journal more when a card comes up ... In Soul Collage Evolving, founder Seena Frost writes, " The process of selecting images and maki...

Be the Reason

Today my friends Donna and Marvin invited me to join then on an road trip adventure, and we headed North to Hood River and the Harvest Fest! An Abundance of Produce It was a blustery, rainy day, but Multnomah falls was beautiful as always, and the weather cleared 'just in time' when we arrived in Hood River and the fest!  Rainy day - Columbia River  We had fun wandering, chatting, eating (I had a gluten free enchilada and corn on the cob, Donna had a braut with saurkraut and potato salad) and visiting.  There were many great vendors, and delightful mini conversations!  Business Card blessing And - so many smiles were exchanged!  They cost nothing, and are so appreciated!  More than once, we heard, " you made my day !" So this card Josiah invited me to choose was a great affirmation!  Cacao Brain Bliss -  ManukaMana I look forward to the first sip of Cacao Brain Bliss - made with ceremonial cacao, lions mane mushroom and manuka honey - whi...

A Pinch of Salt

In the fall of 2022 , I was sorting and paring down as I prepared to move across town to my daughter's, while Rose Cottage was built.  My daughter and son-in law helped a lot, but I still needed to make many tough decisions about what to keep and what to pass on! And I struggle with executive function - so it was challenging! Percy choose his basket  for the move Enter - Salt ! Between rounds of dethugging I found putting out little bowls of Salt ever so helpful! It does its work behind the scenes, whilst we're sleeping! My Feng Shui consultant and friend  Gwynne Warner  suggests sprinkling salt in the corners of rooms (where energy accumulates and can get 'stuck') , then sweeping it up the next day. Another tip was to leave a crystal on a box or space you plan to sort overnight, and invite it to help you gain clarity on distributing the contents.    Atelier - packing up Simple Shui consultant Amanda Gibby Peters feels Salt is,  "an ever...
