In a recent podcast, Feng Shui maven Amanda Gibby Peters offers ways to set ourselves up for success in our endeavors by setting routines and areas that support them. Amanda often shares tips for boosting our homes positive energy - these are simple to implement - and you may already in place!
Early in the year, many folks reevaluate what's working and what we'd like to improve and achieve in the year ahead. Our surroundings can support implementing these intentions.
Vision board -2025
- Put your home to bed. I've written before, that 'tidy folks' often take 'walk throughs' several times a day - putting things away, disposing trash, and tending little things that need doing. Doing the last walk through before bed helps set space for the day ahead, and streamline morning routines.
- Optimize your bedroom. Is it a dumping ground for extra things? Do you have a system for clothes that can be reworn? (The 'floor-drobe' isn't the best option!) A good night's sleep is easier on a good mattress and with a comfy pillow. Limit electronics, and periodically clear surfaces of empty containers. Group items together and 'prune' periodically.
Skylight and kitchen window
- Soak up the sun! Open the blinds and let the light in. Open windows whilst tidying when you can. One of the Things I adore about my new little house is the amazing light! I lived in a 100 year old farmhouse for 19 years - and the windows were tall and narrow. In Rose Cottage, it's bright even on grey days!
- Amanda recommends finding a sunny spot in your home for a daily ritual - read a book, do a creative project, write in your journal .... And spend time outside daily when you can.
North living room window
- Green it up. Bring in nature by adding some houseplants and fresh flowers when you can. I have 4 large windows with wide sills, and have plants on 3 of them! (The cattio opens from the one in my bedroom, so doesn't have any plants!) Amanda is a big fan of getting ourselves flowers weekly, and i love the lift they bring a space.
- Set space for creativity. We need favorite materials and tools handy and accessible for creativity flow! I store art and craft supplies in my atelier/ library/ music Studio - but tend to create in my living room. My art cart currently does duty as kitchen storage - I may need another for the crafts! I usually play harp in the Studio, which also has a skylight and 1 large window.
Would you add anything to Amanda's list? I know some folks set up a beverage area the night before, or choose their clothes ... how about you?
Nadya, I am familiar with Feng Shui, and I love that you are sharing some here. I love the expression, "Put your home to bed." I think I do this, though I had not thought of it this way. I lock the alarm, set the air to a cooler temp, take night supplements, set up all supplements for the next day, set up breakfast, and lay out my outfit for the next day. If I have PT, I may need an outfit with options or two entirely different outfits. I do minimize electronics at night, especially in the bedroom. Thanks for a fun post!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome - and What a great nighttime routine, Kebba!you sound well set for each new day! Yes, I like the phrase "put the house to bed" as well!
DeleteWhen I worked in a retail store we had a routine that equates to puting the store to bed. It involved an operation of "facing the shelves". That involved straitening the things. on the shelves and pulling the stock from the back of the shelves forward to fill the spaces left by the merchandise that was sold during the day. Some things had to be put back into their proper place and of course, the counter spaces had to be cleared and organized.
ReplyDeleteOne tip I have heard is to minimize the number of surfaces so that there are fewer places to collect (and grow) stuff.
I like the new term "floor-drobe" :)
Surfaces sure attract clutter, don't they!! I always appreciate when I've tidied them - and isn't floor-drobe a great term?!
DeleteI do asimplest 'rock in' before leaving the treatment room I share with another therapist! Tidy up, straighten any tools i used or putthem in a drawer, torn the heart down, and take put the bag of linens.
