In SoulCollage Evolving, (p 31) Seena wrote, "the Community suit was actually the initial suit of this process."
As a final project in her studies with Jean Houston in the 1980s, Seena made cards honoring each participant in the three year program. She created over 100 cards during their 6 months between sessions, drawing a participant's name each day!
After completing the course, Seena's love of the practice led her to keep going with it, and to developing SoulCollage®.
The community suit in the SoulCollage® deck contains cards "for those beings that impact your personal story with their special energy. ... (they) offer the 'net' of their love and wisdoms" - and may also "'net' you with their demands and challenges."
As we begin to craft our own deck, we're invited to list beloveds who cross our lives, and influence who we are: ancestors, family, friends, teachers, siblings, healers, pets ... plus historic figures - Mother Theresa, Jane Goodall, Ram Dass ... special trees and places could go in this suit as well.
While cards are generally collaged, layering several images, a photo like this of Dorty, a botanist and Renaissance Woman in her beloved garden could be used as is! Or I could add favorite flowers, critters and crafts around her image.
As we dialogue with cards, they can act as mediators - providing a way to 'hear' something from them that might cause angst, when speaking 'in person.' It can offer a way to connect with those who've passed on.
As I read this post I could easlily come up with a few people who had major impact on my story. I like the idea of making a college of those people and taking time to journal about the impact they had on me. What a great way to honor them and myself.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it a great idea?
DeleteI think that's one reason we enjoy photo albums, and are tickled when we see one of those special people!

Wow, I had no idea about making the cards for all the participants in the program. That is a LOT of cards, and a lot of getting to know people. Admirable to be sure! I love the idea of making something that symbolizes the wisdom or gifts someone has brought to our life. :) These are so joyful. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteIt is admirable!!
DeleteSeena comments that she drew one name a day over the 6 months between sessions, and made a card honoring him or her during that time 'off.'
The program with Dr. Jean Houston explored myth, archetypal psychology and various spiritual practices, and collage became a 'metaphor for discovering, gathering and reweaving energy ...'
What a great idea to make a collage to honor people who have impacted us or others.
ReplyDeleteYes, I think so, too!
