Word for 2024

 In my last post, I wrote about using Soul Collage or a vision board, to zero in on and activate a guidance word for the year ahead. 

In January 2024, our singles group met for a wee feast, and each of us drew a card from a Hawaiian healing deck. The card I pulled,  'Kaulike, ' invites balance - and we spoke of finding balance between work and play, in community, relationships, & life.

Later that month, I chose Balance / Kaulike as my word for '24. I wrote it on this arrow in our group with Kathleen and others from the Word of the Year gathering, and tacked it up on my wall.

Here are some thoughts about engaging with a word of guidance for a season, or for the year. 

  • Consider how you want to work with your word - is there an affirmation?
  • A color?
  • A sigil/ symbol?
  • How will you give it form?
Here are a few options:
  • Illustrate it - sticky notes, an arrow, a SoulCollage card....
  • Record your word and insights in your journal
  • Choose a daily action to strengthen your connection with the word/ phrase
Your word may morph throughout the year - you might end up modifying, enhancing or revising your word. You may want to choose a word seasonally. One year I began with 'Initiate,' and as I worked with it, shifted to 'Initiation' - which felt more active!

    I choose a guiding word each year. For 2025 it's Resonance. I usually create a collage in Canva with the word then use SendOutCards to send the collage to myself on a 5x7 greeting card that sits on my desk all year long.

    Beautiful! I usually set a theme for the year. I like the idea of doing this quarterly or even monthly. I work frequently with a cosmic deck by Nari Anastarsia and ask for guidance on what to work with. Sometimes I ask for a theme for the day or the week, if there is something challenging I am working through and I feel I need extra guidance.

      I like your theme for the year practice! My friend Cindy has been leading online sessions on the last Friday of each month to work with our Word of the Year, and qualities we identified as 'helpers in January!
      I have only made it to a few of them - but their always fun and inspiring.
      The deck looks lovely! I have a couple of Kyle Gray's lovely decks that I include in readings.

    I've used a word for the year for quite awhile. It was introduced to me by Susannah Conway. She also offers a free workbook to her readers called Unravel Your Year. I have found both helpful.

Reset - Red Thread Circle

What is Soul Collage?

  A day or so ago, my daughter asked, 'what is Soul Collage?' ... here's the elevator pitch: Soul Collage cards combine several images, usually from magazines and calendars, assembled and glued onto a card baking. We usually don't include words on the cards, inviting the image to inform is.  The size is either 5×7" or 5x8" - large enough for several images, small enough to work with easily.  When a card is finished, the creator uses several journal prompts to "meet" the cards, and to receive information and insights from the images we've chosen.  The cards represent different aspects of ourselves and of the community around us.  After making several cards, we can use them as we might any oracle deck, consulting or own inner wisdom.
