Word for 2024

In my last post, I wrote about using Soul Collage or a vision board, to zero in on and activate a guidance word for the year ahead.

In January 2024, our singles group met for a wee feast, and each of us drew a card from a Hawaiian healing deck. The card I pulled,  'Kaulike, ' invites balance - and we spoke of finding balance between work and play, in community, relationships, & life.

Hawaiian Healing deck - Kaulike

Later that month, I chose Balance / Kaulike as my word for '24. I wrote it on this arrow in our group with Kathleen and others from the Word of the Year gathering, and tacked it up on my wall.

Kaulike - Balance

Here are some thoughts about engaging with a word of guidance for a season, or for the year.

  • Consider how you want to work with your word - is there an affirmation?
  • A color?
  • A sigil/ symbol?
  • How will you give it form?
Here are a few options:
  • Illustrate it - sticky notes, an arrow, a SoulCollage card....
  • Record your word and insights in your journal
  • Choose a daily action to strengthen your connection with the word/ phrase
Your word may morph throughout the year - you might end up modifying, enhancing or revising your word. You may want to choose a word seasonally. One year I began with 'Initiate,' and as I worked with it, shifted to 'Initiation' - which felt more active!

Do you choose a Word of the Year?
What's a favorite way to work with it?

  1. I choose a guiding word each year. For 2025 it's Resonance. I usually create a collage in Canva with the word then use SendOutCards to send the collage to myself on a 5x7 greeting card that sits on my desk all year long.

    1. What a great way to activate your word, Kansas! And Resonate is such a good one.
And great reminder - I love Canva, haven't played with it for awhile!

  2. Beautiful! I usually set a theme for the year. I like the idea of doing this quarterly or even monthly. I work frequently with a cosmic deck by Nari Anastarsia and ask for guidance on what to work with. Sometimes I ask for a theme for the day or the week, if there is something challenging I am working through and I feel I need extra guidance.

    1. I like your theme for the year practice! My friend Cindy has been leading online sessions on the last Friday of each month to work with our Word of the Year, and qualities we identified as 'helpers in January!
I have only made it to a few of them - but their always fun and inspiring.
The deck looks lovely! I have a couple of Kyle Gray's lovely decks that I include in readings.
      Thanks for stopping by

  3. I've used a word for the year for quite awhile. It was introduced to me by Susannah Conway. She also offers a free workbook to her readers called Unravel Your Year. I have found both helpful.

Morning friendly Space

In a recent podcast , Feng Shui maven Amanda Gibby Peters offers ways to set ourselves up for success in our endeavors by setting routines and areas that support them. Amanda often shares tips for boosting our homes positive energy - these are simple to implement - and you may already i n place!  Early in the year, many folks reevaluate what's working and what we'd like to improve and achieve in the year ahead. Our surroundings can support implementing these intentions.  Vision board -2025 Put your home to bed . I've written before,  that 'tidy folks' often take 'walk throughs' several times a day - putting things away, disposing trash, and tending little things that need doing. Doing the last walk through before bed helps set space for the day ahead, and streamline morning routines. Optimize your bedroom . Is it a dumping ground for extra things? Do you have a system for clothes that can be reworn? ( The 'floor-drobe' isn't the best option!)  ...

Reset - Red Thread Circle

As a group of us prepare  to sift stagnant energy in  our homes, you're invited to set your intention for your space and a bit of Reset.  In our Intentional art community, we set intention in a Red Thread ceremony.  This is  a way to connect as a respectful, mutually supportive group, and begin to inter-weave the threads of our stories.  Red Thread circle The Red Thread has a profound capacity for connecting hearts and minds around what matters. When we face a challenge, we "tug on the Red Thread" as a reminder we aren't alone, and may tap into this web of support. Participants are invited to gather Red Thread, embroidery floss or ribbon, journal, and pour a cup of tea as we begin.    Can you imagine your space as a living Altar?  What is your intention for this cycle? What old stories do you tell yourself about your home? How will you reward your progress? What's your first action step? Take some time to journal on any of these inquir...
