A day or so ago, my daughter asked, 'what is Soul Collage?' ... here's the elevator pitch:
Soul Collage cards combine several images, usually from magazines and calendars, assembled and glued onto a card baking. We usually don't include words on the cards, inviting the image to inform is. The size is either 5×7" or 5x8" - large enough for several images, small enough to work with easily.
When a card is finished, the creator uses several journal prompts to "meet" the cards, and to receive information and insights from the images we've chosen. The cards represent different aspects of ourselves and of the community around us.
After making several cards, we can use them as we might any oracle deck, consulting or own inner wisdom. We can use them for daily inspiration, or random 'readings.' We can journal more when a card comes up ...
In Soul Collage Evolving, founder Seena Frost writes, "The process of selecting images and making personal cards will serve as a daily reminder to handcrafted your own life, to chose pieces that fit together meaningfully and with joy - both for yourself and the planet."
The cards are created for our personal use (not sold out traded); "just choose, assemble, name and then inhabit your SoulCollage® cards. (Seena)
I made my first Soul Collage cards in 2008, when I got Seena's first book on the cards and process. In 2023, Leo Sheerin was one of the artists opening his studio on our Art Harvest Studio tour. He had other mixed media collage work for sale, and during my visit, mentioned he's also a SoulCollage® facilitator! It was fun finding this video, which includes Leo speaking on what drew him to the process and training.
My Word of the Year card, Connected, was created in January during an annual afternoon workshop at my church. Our facilitator Deandra Ellerbe brought stacks of images, backing and other supplies, and gave a brief overview and instructions for crafting our cards.
After finishing our collages, we paired with another participant, and scribed messages from the images - discovering our Word of the Year in the message, rather than coming at it intellectually. My scribe Gary was in awe, commenting he'd never have chosen the same word using logic (and the Thesaurus!)

I love your soul collection cards, what a wonderful idea. I am an oricle healer, so I do used cards myself.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Oh Brenda, I think you'd love the process and insights! I have a bunch of different cards (my daughter once teased, 'how many decks does one girl need?' - then found me a couple in a theory store!)
DeleteSoul collage can be a great way to tap our inner wisdom, collate different aspects of ourselves, and connect worth our support systems!
I had never heard of soul cards. I do use Angel cards but soul cards might be even better. Your soul dance card really spoke to me. I’m not creative at all but who knows you may have inspired me to try.
ReplyDeleteI love angel cards!
DeleteAnd yes, SoulCollage taps our human love of image, and bypass the need to feel creative - anyone can do it!
And you can combine cards of your own making with your Angels for inspiration.
Interesting! It's my first time to hear about soul collage. Thanks for sharing. - Djojo Reyes Jr.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, Djojo Thanks for visiting and happy Blogging
DeleteJust gorgeous! Now that I see your explanation for this, I think I have a few friends in the area that have also trained in SoulCollage specifically. It's interesting to hear all of the thought that goes into this technique. Great elevator pitch.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad my *elevator pitch* made made sense, Safrianna - and how fun you have friends who've done the training!
DeleteIt's really fun to make cards with others - maybe you'll be able to some time!
Thanks for stopping by Nadya
This sounds wonderful, Nadya!! I love the idea that you could eventually end up with your own personal oracle card decks that was perfect for you, and could give you tailor-made wisdom. maybe I will read that book you mentioned. Thanks so much for explaining it. I have heard it explained before but have never understood it as clearly as I do with your explanation.
ReplyDeleteOh, Jeanine, that makes my heart happy!!
DeleteAnd yes - it's sweet to have a personal oracle deck! I really want to go find my older cards, and liberate them from storage.
Would love to have you join our circle some Thursday - 2-3:30 PT 💕
I've never heard of Soul Collage but how beautiful! Thank you for sharing Nadya!
ReplyDeleteThank you Martha - and It's fun to do with grandkids.
DeleteWhen my kids were young, one of their teachers put out small boxes of images, and they could choose several to collage, and then write (or dictate) a story from the images!
