Personal cards - the Committee

As creatrix Seena Frost began working with the cards that became SoulCollage, she realized that the cards she was creating could be assigned different categories or 'suits,' like a deck of playing cards.

In SoulCollage® Evolving, she wrote,  "Some of the images you choose will symbolize different parts of your self, parts such as your Nurturer, your Explorer, or your Lonely Inner Child. ..."

These personal cards form the Committee Suit, and sometimes these facets are out of balance! "By making soul collage cards for them, we are finding a way to step back and observe these personality parts, to name them and get to know them." Glenda Goodrich,  Soul Collage handout.

We each have many inner parts, like cast members acting out a script! They often repeat things over and over, and become very predictable.  Some have a lot of energy and 'lines,' while others seem stuck in bit parts.

Each of these card has a light and a shadow side, and offer benefits and challenges.  As we make cards, we have a way to become more aware of these inner 'characters,' and can encourage more cooperation between them. Do the 'loud' ones need to allow room for the quieter ones to talk?

We can listen to them for insights, and look for natural allies.

Happy Dance (2009)

This early card, Happy Dance represents my joyful inner child - and reminds me of my granddaughter KK, who was 4 when I made it! One of Seena's cards is the 'Scared Child,' who said,  "i am One Who pleads, 'don't make me go out there and make that speach! There must be someone bigger who can do it.  Please... please... please." SoulCollage® Evolving p 23.

It can be helpful to start a list of some of the inner 'characters, and when we come am image that 'fits,' make a card for it.  Most of us have a Critic (of the self) & Judge (of others) ....

During an 8 week Creative Resilience class last spring with Cindy Jacobs, the first quality we explored was the Courage / the Courageous One. After chatting about each quality and recording insights in our journals, we created a Soul Collage, and meet our cards.

My Courage Ally invites me to:

  • Stand strong
  • Stay grounded and do my daily practices
  • Speak the truth
  • Maintain vigilance
  • Bathe in the water of life
  • Remember starlight - I am made of stardust!
Who are some of the members of your inner 'Committee?'

  2. On average, how long does it take you to make a card? How many have you made? What size are they?

    1. Thanks for stopping by!

A quick card can take 15-20 minutes, then a brief 'meet the card' session another 5 or so.
45 minutes to an hour allows for more depth with both - and you can always revisit the inquiries!
I've made about 20 cards this year - the prerequisite for entering the training is 14 cards, including 4 from the Committee Suit.

I made 70-100 those first years (2008 to maybe 2012) most on my own, a few with a group.
Mine are 5x8", and the backing is mat board from a frame shop.

Morning friendly Space

In a recent podcast , Feng Shui maven Amanda Gibby Peters offers ways to set ourselves up for success in our endeavors by setting routines and areas that support them. Amanda often shares tips for boosting our homes positive energy - these are simple to implement - and you may already i n place!  Early in the year, many folks reevaluate what's working and what we'd like to improve and achieve in the year ahead. Our surroundings can support implementing these intentions.  Vision board -2025 Put your home to bed . I've written before,  that 'tidy folks' often take 'walk throughs' several times a day - putting things away, disposing trash, and tending little things that need doing. Doing the last walk through before bed helps set space for the day ahead, and streamline morning routines. Optimize your bedroom . Is it a dumping ground for extra things? Do you have a system for clothes that can be reworn? ( The 'floor-drobe' isn't the best option!)  ...

Reset - Red Thread Circle

As a group of us prepare  to sift stagnant energy in  our homes, you're invited to set your intention for your space and a bit of Reset.  In our Intentional art community, we set intention in a Red Thread ceremony.  This is  a way to connect as a respectful, mutually supportive group, and begin to inter-weave the threads of our stories.  Red Thread circle The Red Thread has a profound capacity for connecting hearts and minds around what matters. When we face a challenge, we "tug on the Red Thread" as a reminder we aren't alone, and may tap into this web of support. Participants are invited to gather Red Thread, embroidery floss or ribbon, journal, and pour a cup of tea as we begin.    Can you imagine your space as a living Altar?  What is your intention for this cycle? What old stories do you tell yourself about your home? How will you reward your progress? What's your first action step? Take some time to journal on any of these inquir...

What is Soul Collage?

A day or so ago, my daughter asked, 'what is Soul Collage?' ... here's the elevator pitch: Soul Collage cards combine several images, usually from magazines and calendars, assembled and glued onto a card baking. We usually don't include words on the cards, inviting the image to inform is.  The size is either 5×7" or 5x8" - large enough for several images, small enough to work with easily.  When a card is finished, the creator uses several journal prompts to "meet" the cards, and to receive information and insights from the images we've chosen.  The cards represent different aspects of ourselves and of the community around us.  After making several cards, we can use them as we might any oracle deck, consulting or own inner wisdom. We can use them for daily inspiration, or random 'readings.' We can journal more when a card comes up ... In Soul Collage Evolving, founder Seena Frost writes, " The process of selecting images and maki...
